Sport fishing in the kenai and russian rivers is managed by the state of alaska department of fish and game (adf&g). Silver salmon can be retained from july 1st to september 30th. It flows northward from upper russian lake in the kenai mountains through lower russian lake, draining into the kenai river near the town of cooper landing.

The russian lakes trail begins off the access road to the russian river campground in cooper landing, at milepost 52 of the sterling highway.

The state charges a hefty $12 just to park for a couple of hours. The road and campground will be closed to the public during the construction. It provides anglers with a quick trip across the kenai river from the sterling highway to the russian river confluence.
